Trump has announced that he intends to nominate Indian-American Vijay Shankar as the judge of Washington’s highest court. If it is approved by the Senate, Vijay Shankar will be made the Associate Judge of the Columbia Court of Appeals.

US President Donald Trump has indicated that he can soon make an Indian-American a judge of the top court of the country’s capital. He has announced that he intends to nominate Indian-American Vijay Shankar as the judge of the highest court in Washington.
If it is approved by the Senate, Vijay Shankar will be made the Associate Judge of the Columbia Court of Appeals.
He currently serves as Senior Litigation Counsel or Senior Prosecuting Attorney in the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice, while also holding the rank of Deputy Chief of the Appellate Department.
He joined the Department of Justice in 2012. Prior to this, he practiced privately with Mayor Brown’s office in Washington, DC and with LLC and Covington & Burling, LLP. After graduating from law school, he served as Judge Chester J. in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Worked as Straub’s law clerk.
He did his BA (with coeducation) from Duke University. Then, took his Juris Doctor degree from University of Virginia School of Law. He also worked there as a notes auditor of the Virginia Law Review
Here, he was also a member of the Order of the Coif, which is the Honor Society of Law Graduates in America.
