In general a healthy and normal person faces ample challenges in day to day life. Imagine the challenges of a person who is physically disabled, who has to face numerous ups and downs on regular basis.
Polio has been one such disease that caused paralysis on hundreds and thousands of people before early nineties. Though largely controlled, there are people who have been suffering from the after effects of polio induced paralysis.
What is Polio
An enormously infectious viral disorder, Polio or Poliomyelitis usually impacts younger children. Sewage-contaminated consuming water is the most common means of spreading the Poliovirus. It can continue to exist for two months inside the human body; about three-fourths of infections are asymptomatic which makes it difficult for the disease to get detected at early stages. Once the polio virus invades the nervous system and spinal cord, it can cause total vaccination.
India and Polio induced disability
Through massive Polio vaccination campaign, India had been able to control a large number of polio cases. In 2014, India was officially declared polio free. However, many cases of paralysis have been observed on which the scientists and medical specialists continue to do research.
For those who have already been affected by polio induced paralysis, there are only few options. They need to be supported in every possible way.
